RAMBO Movie Review

Posted in Movie Reviews by Popcorn Ninja on the February 4th, 2008

Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Graham McTavish

Director: Sylvester Stallone

First thing to say is that the movie is more graphic than your average action movie. There are many graphic scenes of violence, the most disturbing taking place in the first half of the film. The movie follows John Rambo to Burma where he is catching snakes in the wilderness. Quickly we have a Christian group wanting to go into the heart of Burma. They ask Rambo for help to go up river. From there chaos comes when the group is attacked while working in a small village by Burmese pirates. From there all hell breaks loose and Rambo goes in with a group of mercenaries to find the captured group.

The movies acting is not very good but if you enjoy an 80’s style action movie with over the top violence I have to recommend it. Stallone does do a good job at showing the violent behavior of both the Pirates and also John Rambo himself. The last half is pure rush of adrenaline and a huge body count. If you are looking for a real deep and well scripted movie you’ll probably be disappointed, but if you are looking for a kick back to the no nonsense blow ‘em up adventure (and can handle limbs, heads, and about everything else exploding) then you will not be disappointed.

Popcorn Ninja

Rated R for strong graphic bloody violence, sexual assaults, disturbing images, and language.

Thanks for the review. I’ve actually been looking forward to seeing this one for some reason, and although I know the acting and everything probably sucks, hopefully it’ll just be entertaining!

Man, The Drunk Voice Actor is Back. lol.
I’ve seen the movie trailer. It looks kinda great.
But, I don’t feel like watching the movie

This is for the Sylvester Stallone Retirement Fund, so please see the movie three times.

From your review the movie sounds pretty graphic for a Rambo flick…Kinda makes me wanna see it more…To begin with i really had no interest in seeing it since it was “just another Rambo movie” in my eyes…Might have to check it out now.

Like always Sylvester Stallone has done a fantastic job. Its quite different from the previous Rambo movies. On the whole its an interesting movie for all the viewers who like to watch kick ass action.

the action was superb … but i was waitin for Stallone to show hi muscular body with the loaded gun in his hand ..lol

  9. on February 12th, 2008 at 11:55 pm

    Old memories are coming back.
Good view after all. Stallone is not dead yet as other thought.

  10. on February 13th, 2008 at 2:41 am

Is it just me or doesn anyone else think that Sly moving more movies is just a bad idea. The early ones great but recently? I’m dubious as to whether to see this or not. I’ve still not worked myself up enought to see Rocky Balboa.

  11. on February 13th, 2008 at 8:21 am

Well, it wasn’t bad. I would have wanted it to be longer, but then again maybe there would have been too much mindless action and it would have gotten boring. I would agree with decent 3 stars.

  12. on February 15th, 2008 at 2:31 am

It is amazing that their is still a market for Rambo. I wonder if there are further sequals to come?

  13. on February 16th, 2008 at 4:23 pm

Im sure that this is still a hit. Rambo movie has proven this over the years.

This isn’t out in the UK til next weekend, i’m unsure about whether I will see it or not. I did see an interview with Stallone on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and he definately said he would consider carrying on the Rambo story line.

  15. on February 17th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

This movie is underrated. I thought this was one of the best movies so far in 2008. Sure it was bloody, but that was the whole point of the movie. Stallone was trying to show what goes on in Burma–and he did a good job! I give it a 5/5.

  16. on February 18th, 2008 at 1:03 pm

Hopefully this will be better than the last.
With low expectations, nothing can go wrong watching it.

  17. on February 18th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Man, I can’t believe people are still letting Stallone do Rocky AND Rambo… What’s next? Schwarzenegger doing Conan?

  18. on February 19th, 2008 at 4:33 am

I remember the first movie about Rambo - it carried some message, a story of the man, who returned home emptied by the war and had nothing for himself. That was the lesson, the idea. I, probably, missed one in Rambo 4, only action and bloodshed.

This movie doesn’t seem to be getting that much hype. I remember the Rocky movie getting alot more attention. Is that a sign of the real quality of the movie?

  20. coldfusion said,

going to give this one a miss I think

Ok so how many words does sly say in this movie, i’m guessing under 20!!!

    No more please.

well i finally went and saw the movie…I honestly thought it was a pretty good flick…It deff was action packed….Doesnt remind you of the ol’ school Rambo movies though…Those were classics.

Like most trilogies and beyond, you can typically look back and find that the first was the best. It may look dated now and not have all the masses of explosions, but First Blood is still the best.

Fair play to Sly though, I would like to look that good at his age. In fact, I would like to look that good now !

  24. Ian said,

I think I’ll give this one a miss. The first Rambo was vaguely ok, but the rest have been pukeworthy. Sly must have run short of cash to want to make another one.

this 1 is full of violance :S

  26. on March 12th, 2008 at 1:49 am

RAMBO FIRST BLOOD, was excellent. The rest of the Rambo got way bigger than life (more like comic book super hero).
I think sly may have made lots of green on RAMBO,and ROCKY movies.
But if you keep playing the same character over and over again, where’s the acting?
I think sly was getting better at acting different characters in his various that were NOT ROCKY, OR RAMBO.
Lets have a new role Sly! James

This is a great movie I don’t think that somebody can be disappointed. All films with Stallone are good. H is amazing actor, and he a real MAN. He is a hero. It doesn’t meter what film it is, with Stallone it will be good film.I have seen all films with him, almost all of them I have on the DVD. Films like Cobra or Tango and Cash I can watch all day long.

I recenly read that Dustin Hoffman was offered playing the Rambo role in the first movie, something I find unbelievable. Can somebody imagine Dustin Hoffman being tortured by vietnamese??

The new rambo movie is one of my favourite movies of all time. I watched them all in order before I watched the latest film. Sweetest movie marathon ever.

  36. on June 21st, 2008 at 12:06 am

Dustin Hoffman as Rambo? LOL :)

Generally speaking I liked the movie, although it’s full of stamps and cliches.

  41. on July 14th, 2008 at 10:18 am

saw it this weekend, it felt like it was missing something, it was a little too short and the characters could have been developed better. if someone had not seen any of the other rambo movies i would imagine it would have been very confusing

  42. on July 16th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

I love the Rambo movies. Obviously, this one wasn’t as good as the original, but a sequel (or in this case the 4th version) is rarely as good as the originial.

Sly is still rocking and has done a fantastic job with the new movie.

What a great movie this was. Thanks for the reminder.

  47. on September 15th, 2008 at 10:30 pm

Funny but I grew up watching Rambo Movies. And up to now, I still enjoy watching it every time It is shown on HBO or Cinemax. Anyway I think there is nothing new with the bloody violence, sexual assaults, disturbing images, and language, I’m just thankful, I wasn’t able to adapt those “things” into my life….. Let me see if I will still enjoy this one.

I also grew up watching the Rambo series of movies. These were some of the best movies all time. Unfortunately this new Rambo didn’t really tickle my fancy to much. It just seemed like sly is to old and the story line was kind of weird. But im sure a lot of people like me still went and saw this movie hoping it was going to be like the original.

  49. on September 26th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

as for a Rambo ending i dont see this one as the best. I thought terminator 3 was a better ending film.

This Rambo movie was terrible. I really dont think they should have even wasted to money to make this movie. Its nothing like the originals. If you must see it rent the DVD.

  51. on October 12th, 2008 at 3:55 am

i watched all Rambo Series but the worst is this Rambo Movie. The others are better than this.

Its a good review about movie. After reading I can say that though the movie is not good in acting but good in story. So it can draw the attention of viewers.Especially the appearance of Stallone is pretty good for movie.

  56. on December 26th, 2008 at 4:26 am

I think this review is quite true about that movie .I don’t find such movie interesting .

  57. on January 12th, 2009 at 10:18 am

This film is awesome. Everything you expect from Rambo. Sly may be getting older but it doesn’t show and he’s just as much as legend today as he was 15 years ago!

  58. on January 20th, 2009 at 6:15 am

Sly is one of my favorite actors, I will be interested in seeing more of his works in the future.

The movies acting is not very good but if you enjoy an 80’s style action movie with over the top violence I have to recommend it. Stallone does do a good job at showing the violent behavior of both the Pirates and also John Rambo himself.

I like Rambo movie’s very much…I have been expecting to watch such movie..I think it won’t disappoint me…I am ready to watch the story for the violent behavior….Nice experience to share the movie…..Thanks!!!Keep posting!!!!
