New G.I. Joe Resolute Review

I’m not sure if anyone else out there was a big fan of G.I. Joe growing up, but I know I was.  I loved watching the original cartoon series and we can’t forget the numerous action figures that came out.

Well there was a treat this past Saturday when Cartoon Network aired the new G.I. Joe Resolute movie at 12 PM EST.  I didn’t know what to expect with it but it was a total treat.  The animation was definitely sharper and more up-to-date than the 80’s cartoon that I remember, but still had an old school feel to it.  Many of the major characters had roles in the new movie, including Duke, Flint, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Destro, and Cobra Commander (and more).

Although it felt old school, it was much more mature.  Take note that this is aimed at adult viewers - not children.  The opening scene showed a crime scene with a corpse and blood everywhere.  It is definitely for a more mature audience.  This time around things were exploding and people were actually getting killed.

After the World and G.I. Joe become under attack by Cobra, they must split up to fight against time to save many of the World’s major cities.  Much of the movie focused on the past of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, which was cool to see.

The movie ran a little over an hour and was a definitely a treat for fans of G.I. Joe.  There has not been any news (that I’ve heard) about kick starting a new cartoon series but for the fans of Resolute, let us hope it does come.

To say that this new installment does the class G.I. Joe justice is a large understatement! The new GI Joe movie plays out very nicely over its 60 minute time frame. It doesn’t feel like the movie was rushed, and the ending is just right. The characters are all well developed, Duke, Scarlet, and Snake eyes, all three well developed. Great writing! The animation is also brilliant. It looks amazing! I feel that after this one there should be a sequel, or a new TV series.

I don’t think we ever had GI Joe in my country. I know the GI Joe action figures were rebranded as “Action Man” here in the UK. Wonder how that’ll effect ticket sales over here.

  35. on July 14th, 2009 at 8:37 am

It’s amazing the realism that you see in animation today. Sometimes it’s hard to tell it from the real thing.

  38. on July 31st, 2009 at 2:13 pm

I think it’s interesting that they aimed this movie at adults rather than kids. With so many animated films out now, they catered to us sentimental old fools. Nothing brings back our childhood like cartoons. poker rakeback

I never expected that they could come up with an amazing G.I. Joe film like this. When I was a kid, I loved watching G.I. Joe cartoon so my expectations were quite high about this film. But, good enough, the film was even greater than what I’ve expected! Your right, the production was colossal and it shows in their sharper effects. I’m so looking forward to the next one! I hope there still will be!

The movie is awesome. I was a huge fan of G.I Joe growing up. I was just telling a buddy of mine that they what was popular back in the 80’s like transformers and Gi joe they made it into a movie.

What other cartoon be into a movie?

Knowing is half the battle. lol.

  45. on September 8th, 2009 at 1:51 am

Another comic book made into a movie, it received an average response

  46. on September 16th, 2009 at 11:44 am

The effects were crazy, weren’t they? I thought it was a good popcorn flick, but I think I still prefer the cartoon parodies.

Quite a review there. And thankfully a balanced one. Every other review’s just been ranting about how the suits look like Iron Man’s suit.

I am very big fan of the G.I. Joe film, its because I knew what to expect from them, tons of cool special effects and some really exciting action. And guess what? i always get these kind of things in G.I. Joe film,

i really enjoy The Rise of Cobra , unlikely Transformers 2 was so dull for me

    anyhow good review dear
