Choosing the right TV Stand
As televisions have made incredible advancements over the past 10 years, entertainment furniture has also evolved. The days of a rickety TV Stand holding up an 11 inch screen are long gone. Even simple TV stands and entertainment centers have changed in an effort to accommodate today’s larger, wider, and flatter TVs. Now-a-days most homes have at least one LCD or plasma TV. As these modern TV’s become more and more affordable, flat screens have become less of a luxury and more of a necessity. There are several options available for presenting your plasma or LCD TV depending on the style you are looking for.
Standard flat panel TV stands are a popular option for most living rooms. These stands are similar in design to traditional TV stands, but are wider to accommodate the wider screen format or modern plasma and LCD TV’s. They are available in many different colors and materials including wood, metal, and even glass. Some stands even offer media storage cabinets or shelving to help keep all of your movies and video games in the same unit. If your TV is in a high traffic area and you are concerned about your TV getting knocked off the stand, there are also stands that come equipped with TV mounts, so that your TV is safely secured to the unit itself.
If you’re looking for a modern space saving way to showcase your TV, then a TV wall mount is probably more up your alley. TV mounts are surprisingly inexpensive and can easily be installed in your home without the need for expensive home theater professionals. All you need is a screwdriver and the help of a friend or family member. TV wall mounts come with a variety of different options including tilt functions and extending arms. Though mounts that extend from the wall tend to cost more money, a standard flat wall mount can be purchased for less than 100 dollars. A wall mount is the ultimate way to show off your TV while also adding a modern flare to your home.

We purchased a stand from WalMart with 2 slots in the front for devices. Only problem is the DVDR is wider than the size of the slot. Our mistake.

The television stand are i think is in the deprieve ways as many people like the flat screen and that on the wall so that less space should be consumed.

It took me two weeks to find the right one, thank goodness for best buy.
on May 2nd, 2009 at 10:26 pm
The first TV stand I bought was made of MDF wood. It needed to hold up a 300LB 32″ CRT tube TV. It was fairly sturdy, and it had to be to not collapse. In fact, I wondered if it was sturdy enough! The TV is long gone, but I still have the stand. My point is, spending a few extra dollars on the stand is worth it, because you will have the furniture long after the technology is gone.

I ran into an issue with my flat screen, because I didn’t want a bunch of wires hanging out of the bottom, so I had to hire an electrician to come over and cut a hole in the wall and run a box and wires for me to connect everything. Would up costing me nearly $400….take that as a warning. I wish I opted for a TV stand.
on May 4th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Agree!A wall mount would be better for tv nowadays. However, it’s best to think twice as some love to switch their furniture around and this might not be a good choice for them.
on May 5th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Wall mounts are the best. It wouldn’t be space consuming if you hang it on the wall.
on May 6th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Wall mounted Tv’s are becoming more and more popular.

I was able to find a 42″ and a great stand for it, for about $500!
on May 8th, 2009 at 12:16 am
It’s amazing how much the prices have fallen for LCD’s, and they are getting better and better each month! I just may be able to finally be able to buy one this summer, and I will definitely be looking for one of those Flat Panels that are pretty much ready to go up on your wall from the day of purchase! hehe
Till then,
Jean

I think that the TV stand should combine with the shape, and the color of the Tv and with the color of the wall or of the furniture that is around it.
on May 12th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
I have 2 nice glass and metal tv stands but I don’t even put my tv’s on them. They are hanging on the wall. I bought them about 3 years ago and it looks like the tv stands have come down in price much like plasma tv’s.

I just got a new Sony Bravia 55 inch tv. The thing is unless its elevated it looks kinda small but the screen is technically big. Are there good trustworthy online sites to buy tv stands from. I want a nice modern looking, sleek, perferabbly pianio black glossy finish stand (so it matches the tv and decor nicely). It also has to be able to accomodate a blue-ray player, a verizion fios hd box, and a ps3.
on July 1st, 2009 at 11:43 am
I choose to put my 40″ on a stand instead of wall mounting. After screwing in the stand, I notice a slight wobble from front to back. Is it normal?
on July 3rd, 2009 at 2:55 am
Thanks for this information
on July 5th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Luckily I didn’t have to spend time searching around for a tv stand either. My 55″ tv came with a free stand as a package deal.

It’s a black tempered glass tv stand. The dust collects daily and seems to come back with a vengeance every morning. I need a repellent for dust that will not harm the stand’s finish.
on August 13th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Also, make sure you dust with damp cloths instead of dry ones (or else use something like swiffer dusters) so you aren’t just stirring the dust up into the air, only to land back on the tv stand again.
on August 13th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I know they sell laptop locks to secure your laptop to a desk, but my dvd player doesn’t have the proper lock slot that the cable uses.

Got this tv this morning and the stand is not on it. It’s been bugging me for ages as to how you fix on the stand. The screws are too small and the holes are way too big!
on August 19th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I like the Cantilever stands for LCD Tv’s. They’re sturdy and well-designed, amking it very functional, not just for lcd tv’s but for other electrical devices as well.
on August 19th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Wow! This is an amazing breakthrough! I love the technology on the TV mounts since our house is not that big and we wisely use the space for all the appliances and equipments inside. This is truly helpful for our need since it will not only provide a sturdy foundation for our TV, it will also fit our budget! It’s like hitting two birds in one stone! Thank you for this information.

I have a black tv stand with four shelves that holds my 32″ LCD TV with lots of room to spare plus all my game consoles, DVD players, games etc. It’s nothing more than the black plastic snap together shelving that they sell at Lowes and Home Depot and other places for around $30 or less.
on September 5th, 2009 at 8:00 am
It looks sharp and holds everything nicely. It sets my TV at the perfect height for seeing it in all parts of the room too. It breaks down to a stack of shelves and tubes that fit easily in the back seat of my car and hardly weighs anything.
on September 5th, 2009 at 8:01 am
My components are easier to get to for hooking and unhooking and dusting than theirs are. I’ve also noticed that their components get just as dusty in their “enclosed” entertainment centers as mine do on my shelves.

Yet it’s strong enough that a 150 lb person can stand on one of the shelves with the legs on without breaking them. Why spend big bucks for shelves made of wood, metal, glass etc? Some of my friends say they like their enclosed shelving systems better but I don’t know why.

I ordered a couple of Bello stands from them. They came out to about $450, which was less than I could find them anywhere else. They arrived - with free shipping - about 2 days after I ordered them. I highly recommend this place.

You can get some nice scenes in pet shops (used to add scenery in aquariums) they come in different depths and on a roll so you can buy as much or as little as you need.
