It seems like there are more and more Hollywood reboots lately. They continue to try the remaking and redoing of older movie franchises (Friday the 13th, Batman series). Some are actually good and most are a lost cause. This time around the brilliant J.J. Abrams, tries to restart a classic but at times flawed Sci-Fi series. And this time around it is a huge success.
The movie show the origins of the Star Trek Enterprise. Everyone from Kirk to Scotty have their share of screen time. This movie hits all the right notes with amazing direction and some of the best visual effects we have seen of late.
Put together a cast of young stars that fit into the roles perfectly. Both Pine (James T. Kirk) and Quinto (Spock) are so comfortable as the legendary characters. They create their own while staying true to the source of their characters.
It isn’t just a great summer movie, it’s one of the better Sci-Fi flicks to hit the screen in a long time. It’s exciting, dramatic, funny, and smart. Many of the previews say that it is the Star Trek everyone will love. They aren’t kidding.

JJ Abrams produces Lost so you probably will get lost. The film introduces the characters from the old series so you may miss out on some “inside jokes” but the story itself is completely new.

I haven’t seen the new Star Trek movie yet, but after reading the review, I might go ahead and watch it. Personally… I have never seen an episode of the original Star Strek, but I have had alot of friends who have. So this might be my chance to finally get into the series, hehe. I think that will likely happen to others as well if the movie is a hit, like you suggest it to be here.
Actually I just checked the stats, Money wise… and it appears that it is leading the charts! Right now its about $79 million, for the recent weekend, so It seems that yup it is a big hit! Will be interesting to see if a surge in Star Trek fans happens to hit the world

I just watched Star Trek last weekend. I’m not a Trekkie, but I really enjoyed the movie. However, I found myself wanting more. Seems like it may have ended a bit early. Still a great movie.

They made it so it doesn’t matter if you have seen any other Star Trek movies or TV shows. There might be some little inside stuff, but it wouldn’t take away from the movie for those who didn’t know. So go see it - just don’t kick the back of my seat!

I just wanted to give an update…. I went ahead and saw the Star Trek movie at my local theater, and I really liked it. Beats the heck out of the Star Wars movie they put out a few years ago.

I loved this film, so much infact that I watched it twice! I loved the effects any shot would make a good photo! I loved the hints of the old sound track, i loved kirks acting. HAHA, i loved it all, totally awesome!

I don’t have a uniform hanging in my wardrobe and I cant speak Klingon,so I am not going to lie I wasn’t a star trek fan when I went to see this movie, but I can agree that this was a great movie indeed. I think its amazing that this movie was able to attract a much larger audience as well, and still please everyone. JJ Abrams did a great job!

I finally went to see this at the theatre the other night. Even though I have never been a big Trekie I did enjoy this movie. It was quite entertaining with a decent plot. My girlfriend did not enjoy it as much, but she did not know any of the original star trek characters.

i think all too often in remakes, they try to make an exact duplication of the previous, and it’s tempting to when it was a success. it’s riskier not to, but i think you earn a lot more respect, and it pays off much more in the end if you take that chance, and i was glad to see that the director took that chance.

I finally got around to seeing this!
One of the things you can say about Star Trek is that it is a crossover movie that even people who aren’t into science fiction (or the original franchise) will like.
I’m not the biggest fan of the original characters, but when Sulu said he was trained in FENCING for that special weapons mission I was going crazy. Great pacing by J.J. Abrams on that one!

Star Trek is one of those movies that benefited from the reboot. I loved it. I wonder why the people who do these reboots will not take time out to see what people want in it other than speculation. Original works, it’s just the elements that needs the reboot with a little extra formula.

I must say I absolutely loved this movie. I would count myself a casual Star Trek fan, but as I result of this movie, I find myself increasing watching re-runs of the various Star Trek series when they come on TV; particularly TNG. I can’t wait for this to come out on DVD.
Still, I do wish Scotty (Simon Pegg) had some more screen, and having watched the original series as a child, I still wonder where Spock and Uhura’s spontaneous and un-explained romance came from =)

I’ve seen the movie and I must say, I was impressed. I understood and enjoyed the movie even if I wasn’t a sci-fi movie fan. I think Star Trek is just the beginning to a movie series that fans should watch out for.

I am not much of a star trek fan, however, this one was definitely worth my while. True enough, the casting was well-thought of, having the right actors playing the right roles thereby giving justice to the original. I also agree that this is one of the best sci-fi flicks I’ve seen so far. The creativity added to the depth of the story leaving you with a feeling of satisfaction after watching.

I’m definitely not a trekkie, but I enjoyed this movie. I had watched some episodes from the various star trek series. I think this helped me enjoy the movie as it introduced some characters that I was somewhat familiar with. To loyal star trek fans, they must’ve loved being able to reconnect with these old heroes.
