5 REASONS…Why I Love Cheesy Horror Films!
![]()
Since Halloween isn’t too far off and I know I enjoy watching cheesy horror films, no matter how bad they are they will usually bring a smile to my face. Here are just some of the reasons why they are so amazingly bad and entertaining.
- Reason 1 - “Maybe we should split up!?!?” The characters complete lack of common sense. Maybe it’s just me but why would you ever split up when you are walking through a forest that is pitch black and there are obvious signs that you are being followed. And we all know what the fate is of any one that leaves the group.
- Reason 2 - “Body Counts!” You have to love that the victims of the villain end up in the same room, planned just perfectly so that when the little boy that just walked up the stairs walks into a room with a pile of corpses.
- Reason 3 - “This Door Worked Two Minutes Ago?” Then there’s the door that doesn’t seem to open at just the right time. It worked just a few minutes earlier when the boyfriend left the bedroom but apparently it sticks when the female has to get away from the villain. But then again most the time the doors seem to work at just the right moment.
- Reason 4 - “Bad Time For A Breakdown” Just like the door, the car never seems to work when it needs to. You turn the key but it just won’t go until that last second. I bet they are kicking themselves now, they should have known better and taken the car to the shop a few days early.
- Reason 5 - “Aren’t You Suppose To Be Dead?” You just have to love the fact that the killer can never die. Poor Jason has been drowned, blown up, chopped up, and so on. Nothing stops these guys but then again if they stopped we wouldn’t have the ridiculous amount of sequels to keep us coming back for more.
I know this doesn’t apply to all horror films and props to the original horror films that don’t have to use these types of cliches. And trust me, I can’t complain too much because if it weren’t for these “classic” films I wouldn’t have anything to watch at midnight on the weekends.

P.S. I know I missed some reasons so feel free to add comments to this post. Thanks!

you did however forget that the main

then goes to investigate it, ALONE.

You forgot my favorite cliche; Any characters who have sex or make out will be killed first.
on August 16th, 2007 at 11:36 am
Liked the post! I love how they always show the killer at the beginning and then at the end of the movie you end up saying “I KNEW IT!” or “OMG THAT WAS THE GUY FROM THE BEGINNING WTF?!?!” I blog about movies as well, perhaps we can exchange links!

Don’t forget the ridiculous musical score and all those bone crushing sound effects. Not what I would call a night with the Boston Pops, if you know what I mean.

I agree 100%. I don’t know what you think of “The Saw”. I saw (no pun intended) the 5 installments. I love it. I think this is one of the best script ever for horror movies. I mean there is really a big effort in this script.

Particularly movies that don’t have a well thought beginning are the ones you can tell right away will be boring. Action movies keep you on the edge of your seat all the time!

You good points, lol . Sometimes it is fun to watch those movies.

My favorite part of horror films is how courageous the cast always has to be, otherwise 99% of the situations would not be possible.
In reality, when we see the front door of our house is open before we get home, we call the cops…we don’t go and investigate. Or if we see some lights on where there are never any lights…we probably go with some friends, or several knives…or even just wait until the sun comes out.

Horror movies are my niche. I have loads of horror movies loaded on my computer. I watch it when i’m down
on May 6th, 2009 at 6:26 am
I think most importantly, Halloween horror movies leave nothing left for the imagination to imagine, really! Gone are the days of hollywood ledgens giving you scary moments of horror that used to be associated with a horror movie; and the main reason is that people are running out of fresh ideas and storylines. So the horror flicks of the day aren’t horror at all.
on May 6th, 2009 at 7:58 am
I love it! But to watch this kind of movie i need a man!!! jajajaj
on May 12th, 2009 at 3:59 am
I think the majority of horror movies are morality tales. A sort of Grimm’s Fairytale before it’s cleaned up for kids.
If I were to add to the list I think they also allow us, on some level to live out the vicious part of our nature. The only difference between a comedy and a horror film is the amount of blood, in both genres we derrive our pleasure from the suffering of the characters.
Horror movies are more original than the average film, even if the horror film stinks, odds are you’re going to see something you’ve never seen before and as Bo reference, it will stick with you.
Like no other genre of film a horror movie can contain elements from every other genre. They can have humor, a love story, it can take place in space, modern day or the old west, but it’s still a horror movie. Put any amount of horror into any other genre and it ceases being a comedy, a timeless love story or a western. It becomes a horror movie.
My favorites, The Exorcist and the original Omen, two films that all these years later give me the creeps.

I really hate horror movies, weather they are cheesy or not. I like to see beauty and happiness in a movie, not blood or body parts.
